The Tofana waterfall by caterina

The Tofana waterfall

This is an extraordinary event that I was lucky enough to be able to photograph. It is the beginning of ice melting on the top of the high mountains. It lasts only a few hours and it’s regarded by the locals as the end of winter.
Magnificent scenery and composition. Fav!! 😀

Extraordinary that it lasts only a few hours and you captured it! It is quite beautiful, as it is. And a definite Fav. Composition is great as usual. And I like that you captured the trees in the foreground to give it some perspective and added interest. (And yet, because I know you appreciate positive suggestions, I will just give you something to think about, which is this. Where is the focus in this shot, an where should it be. It seems to me that the trees are somewhat sharper than the waterfall. And I do appreciate the trees being in the composition. But I think that the focus of the shot should be the magnificent waterfall. They are in relatively in focus, because you took the shot in the middle of the afternoon, and it was very light outside and your lens was close most, or all, of the way. So you had a fairly deep depth of field. But as I look a the photo, my eye sort of want the falls to be just a little sharper than it is. And the only way to accomplish this, I think, would be to have absolute focus on the falls and to let the trees themselves be a little less sharp. I think it is still an amazing shot. And I am just guessing about the focus. But I thought I would mention this, because I know you usually appreciate thinking about such things. Congratulations on making it to the Trending and Popular pages. And capturing this awesome moment.

@taffy @robz @777margo @golftragic @mastermek @domenicododaro @joannakate @suzanne234 @taffy Thank you all for your comments and fav. This event was appropriate to the date. Yesterday was the Day of the Earth and the melting of the snow and the fall of water in such a majestic location are a great reminder of the power of Nature

@mbrutus You deserve a separate thank you for your comment and for your fav. You are absolutely right, I appreciate suggestions and criticisms. This problem with focus has come up even in the past (in particular with a basket of oranges and before then with fishing nets). I checked my camera and in fact the autofocus was not on a single spot, so that may contribute.
I tried to focus on the waterfall, but clearly my attempts were unsuccessful. So thank you again for pointing this out: I will continue to be vigilant in regards to focus while shooting. The praises are clearly much appreciated, of course.
