The pavement is made in Istrian stone, pietra d'Istria, the characteristic group of building stones in the architecture of Venice, Istria and Dalmatia.
@peadar yes Peter, Venice dominated the seas for three centuries. If you go to Crete you’ll find the door and the walls built by Sanmicheli, the official architect of the Serenissima Republic. Same architect who built the doors and the walls in Verona. Chains, in Crete has a Venician harbour. But I’m sure you know all this and you have seen all that
