Near the main square in Bologna there is a fountain, surmounted by a statue of Neptune, the God of the seas. At night the shadow of the statue projects itself against the palace nearby becoming itself an attraction. When I took the picture two nights ago, there was a photographer with his cell who wouldn't move from his position, so I decided to leave it there, to give a scale of the dimension of the statue of Neptune, called by the locals "the Giant" for good reason. Made by the sculptor Giambologna, the fountain was finished in 1566.
It needs a black background to increase the intensity of the shadow.
So glad you decided to keep the young man with the cell. The scale reference really helps and his almost profile appearance helps to add to rather than distract from the subject. Wonderful.
A very sensual photograph. I actually like the young man with the cell phone to provide a sense of contrast - old/modern, small/large, inanimate/animate. The juxtapositioning is powerful.
At first, I thought I clicked on one of my own -- but no, it's yours! I have been photographing Nettuno from so many different angles, so many different lights, and so many different compositions. I love this one of yours, as it implies Nettuno but you don't actually see him. Here's my first shot, more than six years ago! https://365project.org/jyokota/365/2013-01-14
And a one from last year: https://365project.org/jyokota/365/2018-03-23
I also think that the man on the phone adds to the photo. I saw this fountain/statue when I was in Bologna the summer before last, but only by day. I did not know about the shadow at night. So interesting to see.
