Ceiling of an underground basilica

For the challenge bw curves. This is the ceiling of an old basilica underneath a more modern church (XII century). There are 4 underground levels. The first two can be visited and are a fascinating view.
Great capture - looks like an interesting place to visit

impressive brickwork. Looks as though it might be cold down there.

@rumpelstiltskin @helenhall interisting place indeed. There are also mosaics and frescos and, incredibly, at least two springs of fresh water for the homes of the rich Romans who lived there when it was still at the ground level

How amazing, I struggle to get my head around places as old as that. Great shot of all those receding arches.

@golftragic thank you Marnie and Catherine m@redandwhite @777margo @phil_howcroft Rome is so full of interesting places that one should go there for a month and go touring every day. On the contrary we always rush there for some kind of work engagement and only cut out a few hours for cultivating our spirits!

I really like this photo, but I'm not sure I know why. The composition just seems to draw me in. Maybe it is the receding arches, and the textures. It works really well in B&W. Nice job.

@cm_saratoga thank you for your well reasoned comment. Very helpful @paul10 @jerome thank you. I think it’s just a wonderful place! Ancient Roman architects knew how to build
