Rascal and Free Hugs......... by catwhiskers

Rascal and Free Hugs.........

and Rascal is the girl not the cat. She is one of the people in our small town's "Occupy Wall Street".

I had no plans to visit Occupy Wall Street and truth be told, I didn't even know we had one in our small town. But the size of it was proportionate to the town size - 5 in all!

I walked by and then thought I should go back and talk to them. I wanted to know what they were really upset about. It was really interesting...

The first guy I talked really didn't know what he was protesting. He kept telling me to go talk to this other guy. So...

I went to the next guy and the next guy was there because he feels we should all grow our own food and share it with everyone. He wanted to have a big piece of land with a spring on it. He talked about a lot of other things but I had a really hard time following him, but he was really sweet and I respected that he had his believes and stood for them as opposed to the first guy.

Lastly, I meet this young lady. Her name was Rascal (I'm sure that was not her given name) I thought she was really sweet! I told her I would take a hug and she gladly gave me one. And I think she was surprised I said I'd take one! She was more then happy to have me take her picture and seemed pleased I wanted the cat in the shot too. I didn't have time to talk to her, but I may go back and sit down with her and chat. And... hopefully get some really good shots of her and the kitty too!

This was a huge stretch for me, any one who knows me knows I'm very shy and would never go up and talk to strangers.

So today, I made two new friends, three if you count the cat! I even shook the second guys hand and gave him a hug. I kind of got the feeling they were surprised I was open to listening to them. As I talked to them, I realized we were in agreement on way more things than I would have thought.

I'm dedicating this shot to Robin W of 365 fame. I so admire her work and she has given me the courage to do more street shooting! So thanks Robin!
Lovely street capture, and such a lovely story too to go with it!

I loved the photo straight away - what a gorgeous portrait of an interesting person - how open-hearted to be out in the street offering free hugs!

And then I read the words, and they are so open-hearted, too - lovely! Thank you for sharing - a Fav, for so many reasons :o)
