Chinese Men’s Bunkhouse, Britannia Shipyards

Taken for the Nf-SOOC challenge. I’m cheating a bit here. Since they form a series I wanted to present them all together so I created this collage on my iPad. Each image required a square crop to fit but otherwise all four images are straight out of camera. This bunkhouse is part of the Britannia Shipyards historical display. In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s the fishing industry in Steveston attracted a great many labourers from China. Some had been working on the Trans Canada Railroad, others came directly from China. They were housed in cramped bunkhouses with no regard for comfort or privacy. This recreation in Britannia Shipyards gives visitors a glimpse into what must have been a difficult life, far removed from family.
Such a stunning collage with amazing images. That bunk sure looks ever so uncomfortable. I think many countries would not have done half as well without their foreign labourers. It must have been really tough times.

This takes me right back there. So much has happened in the two years since we were in Canada.

These are all nice together, much less each one. Like the laundry line the best

Nice collage of the bunkhouse as it may have been set up in the day.
