…of Woodward’s Landing. In 1913 a ferry service was started across the south arm of the Fraser River between Ladner on the south side and Richmond on the north. Three times a day the ferry carried passengers, livestock and vehicles back and forth across the river from Ladner Landing to Woodward’s Landing in Richmond. The number of sailings increased over time and by 1959 the ferry provided 24 hour service. A tunnel underneath the river was opened that year and the ferry service ceased. Part of the dock on the Ladner side still remains, rotting and unused but all that is left on the Richmond side are a few piles like this jutting out of the water and providing a spot for cormorants to sun themselves. (No sun today, so no cormorants)
