My family met today for a New Years Eve brunch at a restaurant atop Vancouver's Little Mountain. It is an outcropping formed by a volcano 34 million years ago (so a little before my time). In the very early 1900's it was a basalt rock quarry and the rock was used to build many of Vancouver's roads. In 1920 a reservoir was built there and served as the city's water supply. After the war it was turned parklands and named Queen Elizabeth Park to commemorate her accession to the throne. It now houses gardens, playing fields, a floral conservatory under a geodesic dome, the aforementioned restaurant and a number of lookouts that provide a panoramic view of the city. This fun statue was erected at one of those lookouts. It is called "The Photo Session"
