Ride My Llama by cdcook48

Ride My Llama

For the song title challenge. An obscure Neil Young song that pops into my head every time I see a llama which, admittedly, isn't very often. "Gonna ride my llama from Peru to Texarkana"

I am going to have to listen to that song…I don’t know it. We have llamas in our neighborhood. I love seeing them.

Wondering where you found these in BC although I think they are spreading and being farmed all over now. They have the coolest eye lashes. I know we have a few Alpaca farms in Ontario but haven't come across any Llama farms, although they are probably out there.

This is a great composition. They are such silly looking things!

I think they really are alpacas - its all to do with their ears. Llamas have long banana shaped ears which point forward and alpacas just short ones like these.

Good capture of these peculiar animals. Were they at a farm? I'd never heard this song before but I do like Neil Young so when I listened to it, it did get my thumbs up.

They are certainly atop the cute animals list. Nice capture of this one….and the head of the other.

@maggiemae I didn’t know that. Maybe Neil will write another song called “Ride My Alpaca” so I can leave this in the song challenge:)

@maggiemae I followed up further on your comment and discovered that although they are closely related and can successfully interbreed, llamas are quite a bit bigger than alpacas and were bred as work animals whereas alpacas were bred for their fibre, much like sheep. Who knew? Well, you did. Now I do too.

@cdcook48 I had friends who had two - we used to help shear them - a major task!

Great capture, I’ll have to listen to the song I liked Neil Young a lot but don’t know this one

I missed this, but have just voted for it in the song title. Definitely alpacas - I own 5, and your research is correct. Any cross-breeding is accidental, as a cross-bred one, isn't strong enough to do pack-carrying work, and the wool fails the grade.
