Old Standby

No, not me. The camera. (Although, come to think of it, I am a lot older than the camera) I have had my beloved Canon AE1 for nearly fifty years. For some of those years it lay unused and not in working condition as I went through several other film cameras and digital cameras before taking it in to get it back in working order a couple of years ago. It is still such a lovely camera to use and one of the favourite cameras I have ever owned. Although I have two other film cameras I sometimes use, this is my go to when shooting film. This is for September SOOC
Good shot! I still love my film cameras.

I have a similar vintage Pentax Spotmatic - I doubt that it works. I did a short write up on my website about my old cameras - two slr's and two digital if you are interested. https://jennifereurell.com/2019/10/01/the-memory-shelf/

What a classic. Cameras are so much bulkier and heavier these days. I started out with an OM10 and I just loved that camera.

Great story telling image and narrative.

Great shot even without the back story but the story of the camera makes it really special. Do you have your own dark room?

@gardencat I used to back in the day when I was a single young man. A buddy and I built one in a basement corner of our rented house. The landlord was none too thrilled when we moved out a couple of years later, we had done it without his permission.

Very cool! I shot Canon cameras from early on in my film days... I hat an FTB an AE1 and an F-1. My first digital was a Canon 7D... had that one for 10 years and updated to the very first R camera... had so many problems with that camera I ended up shooting Sony instead... a big change for me. Sorry to go on... great to see the AE1 here and it is so nice to think back fondly on my film days.

@kvphoto Don’t worry about going on. I love talking cameras. The AE1 was my first Canon but after that I went through several others, a canon Elan ii, a couple of different Powershots, a T3i, a 5Dii and a 70D. I also briefly had a Nikon F801 in the early 90’s that was gifted to me but that got stolen. Then I traded in my 5D on a SonyA7iii which is still my main camera although I also use a FujifilmXT20 for street photography. I do like my Sony very much, a wonderful and capable camera but there is just something about film.
