Flicker update

Some of you may remember some photos I posted a couple of weeks ago documenting the progress of a pair of northern flickers as they dug a nest in a birch tree in my yard. I was hopeful of eventually getting some photos of their chicks but unfortunately a nasty pair of starlings evicted the flickers and took over their nest. Mr. Flicker appears to be starting all over again digging a new nest. I hate starlings. They are not native to North America but have certainly made themselves at home here and are known for stealing nests.
I don't imagine starlings are high on anyone's list - don't like their aggression, possessiveness - whatever. The flicker is beautiful - hope for better luck this time

Those darn starlings. Hope the flickers are able to make a new nest that won't be invaded. Great shot!

Nature can be so cruel, hoping for a better outcome this time.

A shame about the starlings. Yes, they are very invasive to be sure. Hopefully the flicker will have better success elsewhere
