I had to look up the difference between a swamp and a slough. I'm still unsure but, I think, a slough is somehow connected with a creek whereas a swamp is a more or less flat wet area. .

@gardencat Ladner Slough (and Finn Slough, which I photograph often and is a little downstream) is an offshoot of the Fraser River. It is a small channel near Ladner harbour and ends as a stream running through Ladner Marsh which is indeed a flat, wet area.
