I'm stuck on flies this week. I went out to find whatever. My back is bothering me because I have been having too much fun so I just needed something for today. I settled on the Irish Daisy. I'm married to a third generation Irishman. It was O'Donohue. When great grandpa came over he took the O from the beginning and, being a frugal man, he stuck it in after the H and made it Donohoue. That way nobody would realize that he was an Irishman in a time when that wasn't celebrated by parades and green beer (sure). That is the family story. It is a big family but everybody in the phone book in Cincinnati that spells it that way is related to my husband.
Such an interesting story & family history Cathy !!! The different spelling makes you unique as there will lots of Irish generations with the original spelling !! This fly ..we would call this a Bluebottle ..is rather bejeweled, another name I picked up tonight from another 365er !
@gerry Thank you Gerry. @doorknee71 Thanks Dawn. @johnnyfrs Thanks John. @positivemoments Thank you Tracy. @happypat Thanks Pat - I didn't know that. So I learned something. @amandalomonaco Thank you Amanda. @rob257 Thanks for your comments and for the Fav Rob. It is interesting history when today being Irish is so cool in the states and it really wasn't for a long time.
Wow, wow, wow Cathy - love the colours in the fly and the flower. We also have an unusual Irish name - and are related to everyone in the phonebook here with the same name!!
@kellc Thanks Kelly and cool! I love how names come about. My maiden name is Custer. The General was a several great Uncle. @jenniferruge Thank you Jennifer.
Great catch...love the fly! My x husband's last name is Reilly. His grandfather dropped the O' from O'Reilly for the same reason. The Irish were so looked down upon. My g-grandmother's family came from County Cork. I think it's great to be Irish! :)
The colors are gorgeous. We have a family story about my grandfather, who was a dentist, who dropped the second "m" of the last name "Summ" because it was cheaper when painting the name in gold leaf on his office door. My father put the "m" back.
@humphreyhippo Thank you! @clmiller I like being Irish - and I married into a very proud Irish family. @yonnie Thanks Yvonne. It was at the nursery last year and I had to get it. @tobi Thanks Santina. @allie912 Allison that is so very funny. Frugal man. @girlie If flies can be pretty. I just seem to be finding too many this year. @jackie8 Thanks Jackie. @carolmw Thanks Carol. @princesicita Thank you Princess. @ladyjane Thanks Jane. @timandelke Thanks Elke. @kerristephens Thank you Kerri. @sugarmuser Thanks Sharon. @wannabe Thanks Catherine.
Lovely capture. The fly's colours are so beautiful. Love the story of your surname. My surname is unique too - there are quite a few Degiorgios but just one family Giorgio.
Color, composition, DOF,
All "spot on"!
