A Chicken in Every Pot by cdonohoue

A Chicken in Every Pot

Do you think if this was my platform, along with promising not to call you about the election and not to send any written material to weigh down the recycling, that I could win in November?

This is NOT a political post. I always vote. I have since I was 21 years old - from the very first time that I was old enough for that privilege (that tells you how old I am as 18 year old's were gifted with that right in 1971). I was raised to believe that it was a privilege and a duty. My mother talked about her father walking her to the poling place the first time. He didn't ask her who she was voting for - only told her it was her duty. And I think he was right. If I am going to complain about the world that I live in then I better do what little bit is within my power to change it.

However, I really resent the phone ringing this time of year with everybody and their brother telling me how I should vote. I hate all the literature that clogs up my mailbox telling me who is lying about what and when. I read the other day that there are people now that listen to political speeches to count how many lies are told by each of the candidates. And I most particularly dislike folks at the poling site trying to get my attention as I walk in to talk up their way of seeing things. Do you really think that if I spent the time to show up I could be that easily swayed at the last minute by you handing me a pencil with your favorite candidate's name on it?

I'll get off of my soapbox now. End of discussion. Of course, I now expect I'll be a pretty popular write in candidate.

By the way, this is the beginning of chicken and dumplings.
Oh, I love chicken and dumplings. Wonderful shot.

Now, one of the advantages of living in a foreign country and not being a citizen, YOU NEVER GET THOSE PHONE CALLS. (However, I always get the ones telling me that "they are detecting a virus on my computer". If I didn't lie, I would tell them "THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE. I DON'T HAVE A COMPUTER". Hang in there, Cathy, November is just around the corner.

In two days we have election here! I will be very glad when that day is over, only then they have still to form the government and with all those political parties we have here it's not always easy for a coalition to form. I love you chicken capture, looks very tasty.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the year that my son Andy was born. The OB walks in and asked me if I had voted that day. I reply of course I did - he asked me who I had voted for and the answer depended on whether or not he was delivering my baby!

It is almost dinner time and I sure wish that pot of chicken was simmering on my stove! And you better believe I am going to exercise my right to vote!

You are obviously a thinker and can make up your own mind! The hasslers are trying to get the non thinkers, the ones that don't care on their side! This pot of chicken looks just right with the lovely stock to take the dumplings! Think I'll do that for dinner!

The chicken looks really good!
I agree with you about voting - though sometimes it feels like picking the candidate you disagree with the least.
September 10th, 2012
Sounds like you get a very hard sell over in your country Cathy & I wouldn't like that either. I agree you have to vote, you can't complain if you don't exercise your right . We don't have much hard sell were we live in fact only get a couple of leaflets through the door but it's all on TV of course but you can just switch that off. I am interested very much in your election so will be watching it all. A very nice chicken supper, I will be round!!

@humphreyhippo The older I get the more I think that - but I still pick one.
@happypat Incredible hard sell and a long time to go until the end.
@anazad511 I always leave politics aside - I think that is why it bugs me so much
@allie912 I will take the write in ballot.
@timandelke Counting on it. How do I ask you a question privately so I don't look like such an idiot on +google?

Delicious looking chicken, I bet that is really succulent and tasty! Love your capture of it Cathy.
September 11th, 2012
Heheheh this chicken seems to be coming to boil just like the election campaigns over there Cathy. I totally agree with you, it's the most pure and powerful right we have, voting. A lot of people take these rights for granted unfortunately...
