Charles C. Breuer by cdonohoue

Charles C. Breuer

I stopped back at Spring Grove Cemetery today to thank my friend the swan for posing so nicely the other day. Today he was grooming himself all the way across one of the lakes and wasn't in the mood to come and see me. Lacking a shot I tracked down one of the famous monuments. Meet Charles Breuer who died in 1908 - one of the newer of the monuments. Legend has it that he wanted his eyes removed and put in this bronze bust that marks his grave. They are actually glass - pretty eerie.
mmm- the guy looks as if he came from that century with his clothes and facial hair! What did he do that was famous apart from the eye story? The eyes do look as if they are real by the reflections in them!

They don't bother me that much- so many statues have life-like features it seems pretty normal. He looks like he's staring off into his future in a way. Nice capture.

Great sculpture, love the fine patina of age it has developed over the last 100 years. Nicely captured.

@maggiemae I think his only claim to fame around here is the story and that it is supposed to be haunted there.....
@yonnie Too bad he wouldn't give me the time of day.
@olivetreeann They didn't bother me a bit at the time until I got it home and enlarged it. They really are lifelike.
@amandalomonaco My husband said he looks like Lenin.
@wannabe I, as a rule, hate cemeteries. But this is just not like that at all.
@marieooi Thanks Marie. He is odd looking.
@clmiller They really are.
@fannyb I was talking to him but he was ignoring me today.
@sangwann I love how he has weathered.
@alia_801 Thank you.
@sailingmusic I am no art critic but I think so also.
@steeler Thanks Howard.
@soboy5 I liked that the best about the monument.

A swan with attitude eh! This has made a good subject for your photo of the day though, I think his eyes are slightly creepy I have to say, but good capture!
