Yesterday was a day of opposites. Gina and I took the boys shopping for Easter clothes. I had such a good time being GiGi and buying them pants and shirts for church. Our pastor decided to bring back Easter "bonnets." I look like a goober in a hat. Not one of my finer moments. They wanted upwards of $50 for hats and no way was I going to pay that. So we went to the Valley Thrift store. I found one! I'll never wear it again but at least I can walk through the doors with a hat on.
Our church hosted all of the churches in Norwood for the community service. This is the most solemn service of the Christian year - and it was so bittersweet. Our old sanctuary was full. We had extra choir members so the hymns rang from the rafters. The service was a Tennabrae service - darkness. As each of the different ministers spoke about the nails more candles were extinguished and the drove nails into a block of wood. The sound of the hammer was so very painful to hear. By the time the service was over we ended in darkness - very powerful.
A very evocative picture. From your description you obviosly come from a very different Christian tradition to us. It's good to hear of all the churches getting together. Our local churches had a walk of witness on Good Friday carrying a cross round town. Sounds like you had a very moving service.
I have been to a similar service once. It is very powerful and moving. I was thinking about it yesterday. If you want a new, fresh, and inspiring look at the crucifixion. Listen to Timothy Keller's Podcast entitled "The Crucifixion" I put directions on how to find it on yesterday's picture if you need them. (In a nut shell just go to ITunes - look for PodCasts - and search under his name.) It is wonderful I think!
Wow, that sounds like a wonderful and powerful service. Your picture is perfect to remind us of the story. My sympathies about the bonnet! It was very supportive of you to find one and wear it.
Gorgeous composition Cathy! This is a bitter sweet time on the Christian calendar. Hallelujah we have a Savior who was willing to take our place and took our sins upon His shoulders!
So glad you had fun being GiGi. Enjoy your Easter.
