Thanks to Elke I also participate in the Scavenger Hunt. I am using my "campfire" shot today. I love the story behind this one. I am not - nor will I ever - be a camper. When we went to the Rockies Tom got the ranger at the campground to let us in to take pictures. He told the guy that his wife was in a scavenger hunt with about 500 folks from around the world.
We met the nicest folks when I asked if I could take some shots. They were a church group out for the night. I got lessons in putting food in safes to keep the bears away! They were so gracious allowing us to join them for a while and put our feet up to the fire. People are good all over the world.
Which leads me to my next journal thought for the day. It is 9/11. None of us will forget where we were and how that day played out. And I have spent the day today praying for peace. For the first time in 62 years, and totally because of the ease of the internet, I emailed the President! I told him my concerns about the shape of this world. And please, I am not political and I don't see this as political. I see this as even more folks dying. More innocent folks.
I got an email from the White House this morning. It was a transcript of the speech the President gave last night. I'm still praying for peace.
An old hippie that thinks life has not changed all that much.
The whole tone is so warm and inviting. Thank you for sharing your thoughts Cathy. It is definitely a day of memorial and prayer, and hope for understanding, compassion, tolerance and peace.
I'm not a camper either, but this campfire looks very warm and inviting. I like the way you did it. Let someone else do the work and you get to reap the benefits of the photo.
Beautiful shot. Good for you, emailing the President. We all need to stand up and make our voices heard. That is what this country is all about and what keeps it great!
Love the fire shot, it really radiates warmth and color. Love your story too. I say give peace a chance too but it seems you can't trust others to be peaceful. I am not political either so I am not trying to change any minds.
I don't do camping, but I do like a good fire.
Well done for emailing your concerns. I write to my MP all the time - don't think it makes much difference, but I feel better for not being totally passive.
@vickisfotos I went to the page for the White House and there was a link for correspondence. I don't kid myself that he really read it. But somebody somewhere is keeping a tally of what we the people really want. I'm at a place in my life that I needed to be heard. I pray for peace constantly around this world. I just felt the need to speak up!
@cindymc Bless you! I'm 62 and don't mind it al all. Rather freeing. I was in college when Kent state happened in this country. You better believe I had the tie dye and went where folks went to protest.
thanks for the info! I may just give it a try myself! I realize that he would not have the time to read it all, but as you say, somebody does and so it gets recorded.
@allie912 I have just reached a point that I feel that my opinion does matter. If I don't voice it I do myself a disservice. I know that the President himself did not read my words, nor did he really hit the button that sent me an email from him. But somebody somewhere is counting and getting a feel for what the country thinks. Keep turning into a hippie Allison. We are a nice bunch.
I love campfires :) So warm and inviting! Great shot!
Congratulations on your taking that step and e-mailing the President. Way to go. You are an inspiration, my friend.
