Gratitude and Downward Facing Dog

I woke up this morning and just laid in bed for a few moments. I did a check in with all systems and they all were happy. As long as I kept laying there under the covers I felt incredible. I woke up in gratitude. I got some news yesterday that I didn't want to hear. It was good news in so many ways but it wasn't an answer. I'm in good shape. All of my major organ systems are working together to keep me healthy and I am thankful.

Here comes the part that doesn't make me happy. In the last several weeks I've had my long awaited appointment with the neurosurgeon and the orthopedic surgeon. I have my distinct issues but nothing operable unless I want to add rods and screws to the mix. That sounds like incredibly good news, and it is, but I wanted a quick fix. I wanted someone to say that if they did this then I would be "fixed." Sixty-six just doesn't work that way. I am sort of like my gorgeous garden flamingo- fading paint and a bit rusty. I will continue with my new yoga practice. Downward Facing Dog is sort of a riot at my age but I can actually see that I am doing it with more ease than when I began. Both docs think this is a great practice to continue. I have to find my own attitude adjustment and I am confidant that I will. I always deal better with that which I understand, even if what I understand might not be what I had wanted. I'm aging. That is a fact and it is one that I am grateful to be able to live into. I am blessed to be here.
love your flamingo.. and commentary.

That positive attitude will see you thru this Cathy. I really like the way you represented your heartfelt words with this picture. Hang in there!

It sounds as if you have some things to deal with and that your are dealing in a very positive manner! A good attitude and positive self-talk can do wonders, can't they? While also allowing ourselves to "wallow" a bit as needed:) I'm 67 so as my sister would say, "I hear you clucking, big chicken!" My thoughts are with you Cathy. I love, love, love your rusty flamingo!!

As we age I think we learn to appreciate the things that we have much more. We also do a much better job if we focus on the positive than the negative. You are an inspiration for us all Cathy.

Your flamingo is a very good illustration of where we are in life. Still beautiful in so many ways but not shiny and new as it once was

Great image to match your great narrative...I totally empathize with your situation. I'm 69 1/2 :) and trying to stay fit.

@grammyn I try to keep a positive attitude - after I allow myself to feel the negative feelings. I'm good at finding my "peace" inside.
@seattlite you don't look it so you are doing something very right!

Cathy, that was a beautiful, inspiring share. Sorry for the challenges, but inspired by your perspective. I have recently discovered yoga and have found it to be very beneficial. Best wishes to you!

I'm as rusty and stiff as your flamingo and due to my "frozen" joints (which like you I do not want to replace with metal) I'll probably never be able to do yoga. But the upside is I can still walk (slowly, but I can do it), so I'm coming to accept that I may never get all the weight off that I want to but that I shouldn't stop trying. Thanks for being so candid about your struggle- it's encouraging to those of us who are walking along the same path (I'm 61).

Loved to read your story. Nobody is perfect and the older we get the bigger the list of pains. However, maturity teaches us how to live with them. Love your flamingo.

I love your flamingo, rust and fade included :) I believe that yoga is a great way to keep oneself youthful in both mind and body and I'm sure that you are 'younger' than a lot of people half your age. Keep going gal xx
