Dahlia Fly by cdonohoue

Dahlia Fly

I was outside practicing with the new lens on a sunflower that I just bought. I looked over at yesterday's dahlia and took a shot as I really liked the lighting. I was surprised to find this little passenger. And even happier with the new lens.
On a second glance, this is better than the average. Great positioning, he is sitting perfectly for the shot. Being on a flower it has that whole fly on the fruit appeal of the the masters. Fav

There is a lovely soft lilac stripe in the flower that this insect draws the eye to!

Beautiful shot and great composition....but I still have an obsessive compulsive hatred of flies.

@timandelke There was a real learning curve. We were out of town and I had a day and a half to decide if I was going to take it back. You have to focus a bit further away 60mm vs. 100mm. Once I figured that out I was doing well with it. It is definitely heavier and better made - the cost was about the same. I had to add a few bucks over the insurance but it is worth it. I was just sitting with the flowers last night following the light and this just popped right up.
