Those of you that farm or live in the country probably know exactly what you are looking at. Well, this 62 year old city kid was surprised today. On our way to the lavender farm we found this field. I even knew what the plant was, but had no idea that they flowered. This is tobacco.
My #1 enemy. I quit smoking about 27 years ago - and I still remember that it was one of the hardest things that I have ever done. I quit 100 times before it worked. My husband's boss was dying of lung cancer and Tom never missed a beat telling me about him. I got a prescription for Nicorette gum and that helped me through. And I am so happy that I quit when I did. I have some minor lung problems that are a legacy of this beautiful flower.
Congratulations on quitting! I've seen first hand how hard it is. I admire people who have that determination and drive.
I've never seen a tobacco plant. It actually is beautiful. A wolf in sheep's clothing, as it were!
(My grandmother died from the effects of cigarettes. That's what kept me from trying them!)
I've never seen a "fresh" tobacco plant before, only the dried leaves. I quit smoking almost 6 years ago. It feels good to be rid of the thing doesn't it? ;-)
I had no idea they flowered. Beautiful shot. Congratulations on quitting smoking. My mom and dad both smoked and I HATED cleaning ash trays. And I think that's what kept me from ever trying it. 4 of my six sisters smoke and one of them can barely breathe today.
Sweet cluster of flowers and love the field back there making that great DOF! haha I came to see if you posted half dead frog with fly on its butt. I don't see it.
