I am always learning something new on 365. This week, I noticed the Technique115 challenge using Asymmetrical Balance, something I had not heard of before, but may have used unconsciously on occasion. Apparently, it is when the two parts of the photo have different visual weight, but balance each other out. In this photo, the picture is way larger (filling more than 2/3 of the photo) and bears more visual weight than the smaller items on the dresser top and, yet, the collection of smaller items does attract attention and helps create a balanced picture.
Hi Caroline. This photo is a great response to your Get Pushed Challenge.. I'm suggesting for your challenge this week you take a photo using negative space. Negative space encompasses everything in your composition that is not your primary focus of interest.. There are some great examples and tips on the Internet. If this is a challenge you have already done or doesn't appeal, let me know
@suez1e Hi, Sue. I apologize for the late response to your challenge. I have not previously been challenged to take a photo using negative space and I am happy to take that on this week. For your challenge-- I am going to give you the opposite of mine. Your challenge is to find something with several colors (or several things with different colors) and take a photo completely filling the frame with color.
@robz I'm a little late replying and sending out thanks but, yes, you are right. The asymmetrical balance of light and dark can play a role as well. And, thanks for the comment.
we're paired for get pushed again... how about trying some Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) for your challenge?
i've included a link below for how to do this if this technique is new to you... https://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-take-creative-landscape-shots-using-intentional-camera-movement/
have fun!
