I just got back from a 2 week stay in Virginia. I stayed with Mama, who at 84 still stays by herself in a small house, pretty much isolated. It's surrounded by woods, set off from the main road. You wouldn't even know it was there unless you just happened upon the graveled road. Although I know she's lonely, she insists on being independent and relies on her daily visits from the neighbor's dogs, sometimes a pig, squirrels, rabbits and deer to keep her company. She enjoys nature and loves all animals. She talks to all of them, just as if they were her pets. She's truly a special lady with such a huge heart.
On the day this photo was taken we drove up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, only 30 minutes from our home, and stopped at an overlook. I don't usually take selfies but on this particular day I wanted to document our trip there. So glad I did.
Cindy this is so beautiful and dear. Your mother looks so good. I wish her many more years of talking to the animals in that beautiful part of our world. The Blue Ridge Parkway is such a treasured place. I can just imagine how lovely her home place is.
She sounds a lot how I think I would like to be at that age, Cindy. Animals are so delightful. I understand why taking this lovely photo will be extra special in the years to come. If only a neighbor or someone could stop by every 1-2 days to check on her for your piece of mind. A lovely capture and you do look like mother and daughter!
@danette - Danette, I've been sort of "in and out" on here for the last year and your comment prompted me to look back over your photos. I'm truly sorry that I missed your post about your Mom passing. Moms are so special and, since I live 8 hours away from my Mom, I try to make every moment count when I'm with her because I know how quickly time passes. I lost my sister a little over a year now and I still am grieving. Bless you and your family.
@cindymc thanks, Cindy. I know it's hard to keep up. During this past year, I have missed many photos. While my mom had cancer, we only knew it was a bad one for four days. Felt like having a rug pulled out from under. I am sure you are treasuring your time.
