(Day 106) - Hatch Me If You Can (b&w)

This morning, my dad went outside below our balcony and saw these two egg shells on the ground and on our fence respectively. He feared the worst for the baby pigeon eggs but was surprised to see that our houseguest's little bundles of joy have arrived! Yes, the pigeon eggs I posted over two weeks ago hatched!

Baby pigeons are called squabs, or squeakers. To keep them warm, the parents delicately sit on them. When I go out on the patio, the mama stays put right on top of the squabs but the skittish father gets up and I'm able to get a few shots. The little clumsy squabs should open their eyes in about 5 days and they'll start to fly at the age of about 30 to 35 days. So exciting to watch a nest and see new life take its first steps...or wing flaps.

Wow - this is an amazing collage - love the egg shell on bottom rhs - looks slightly translucent. Your B&W calendar looks fab.

Amazing collage... every single shot in it is great, with perfect contrast and focus!
Hope you don't have a cat anywhere near :D

Very cool. Glad you made a collage so we could see more - easier than picking one of these shots, I'm sure:-) Love mom's (presumed mom) perch to keep a watchful eye out.

@roddy -Thanks very much Suze! All these black and white captures were not easy, I wanted to give up and go with color so badly but the alternate album helped out a lot. But makes me fell really good to know that the calendar view looks fab. Thanks! :)

@lunaksi - What a nice thing to say! I truly appreciate those kind words! Thankfully we haven't seen any cats around in a while and the spot is a little more secluded than it looks. Maybe they chose this it for us human bodyguards! haha

@kimshots - After I took a few of these shots I knew there was no way I could post just one. haha. I have no idea which one is the mom or dad but they're definitely watchful parents. Glad you liked all the shots, thanks much Kim!
