Today we have white balance for the letter "W" in my Technique Alphabet (I also shot with my "W"ide angle lens). I mostly shoot in RAW, which can adjust white balance at anytime in post-processing. However, I went back to my roots for the day and shot jpeg. :)
Simply put, white balance means adjusting colors so that the image looks more natural. While our brains automatically process colors for us, digital cameras can only guess what the color temperature is by watching the ambient light. Most of the time, they can guess pretty well, however, they still make errors and the image might not look like what our eye saw. So adjusting white balance can help correct the issue.
I had some fun with white balance in the scene above. On the top we have Daylight and Shade. On the bottom we have Cloudy and Tungsten Light. My eye saw the color temperature in the bottom right image but I love that the others can give different tint if that's what I want. ◠‿◠
~Sorry I've been absent in my commenting. Having a busy week and I caught a slight cold. Thanks for your generous comments and I'll get back to you all soon!~
@grammyn - Thanks very much Katy! It's a great way to experiment with color temperatures. It's a strange cold or whatever I got. I'm just really stuffed up like when I have a cold even though I don't have allergies. Hopefully it goes away soon.
Get well soon! ;~}
