(Day 304) - Santa Monica Gloom

CJ and I are visiting Santa Monica, which borders the west end of Southern California. The city of Santa Monica features one of the most popular beaches in Los Angeles County. CJ is capturing a great view of the beach, paths, volley ball nets and Pacific Coast Highway. He's looking forward to exploring the iconic Santa Monica Pier, which you can see in the far distance.

You may also notice the gloom. This is a California marine layer. When warm air meets the cool ocean temperatures, it creates a hazy cloud that hangs over the coast of California. At times, it moves inland to the rest of Los Angeles contributing to our famous moderate weather.

Usually it occurs in the morning and/or at night. Most of the time, the marine layer does not last all day. In fact, this one burned off by the afternoon. But for a short while, it actually felt like an LA "winter." ❄️😄
Nice rule of composition

@pdulis - I walked along the pathway on this cliff for about half an hour to find a spot to get everything (including CJ) in frame for an appealing view. Glad to know it paid off. Thank you Peter!

Great shot of a fantastic-looking beach!

Cool shot. I just don't like beaches that can be reached by car.

@haskar - Thanks!!! That's a good point! It's nice to enjoy an isolated beach away from all the hustle and bustle of traffic. There are a few areas along the coast of California that are like that. I'll have to see if I can visit them one day.

That said, Santa Monica is so popular and driving is integral to Los Angeles that this beach is required by law to be accessible by car. But I totally know what you mean!
