Just when you thought it was safe...

I post another butterfly! :0)

I know this doesn't look like a dangerous shot, but my heart was racing. I left before the butterfly did! It was in the edge of a wooded area. I never get that close to the woods, except in winter. I couldn't help myself! This is my favorite butterfly. The thing that had me spooked was a loud buzzing sound. I've seen a couple of hornets this week and I think there may be a nest nearby. I still took about a dozen shots, but I was nervous the whole time. :0)

Thank you so much for your views, comments, and faves!!! They keep me motivated! :0)
Great capture!!!

You are right to be careful, since some of these nests are in the ground...you don't want to walk on one of those! This butterfly is gorgeous, and one of my favorite types too. Great shot!

I can see why it is your favorite. The spread of his beautiful wings shows a design that reminds me of a CAT -- two eyes and a nose, frontal view. The green background sets it off. Very pretty.

@jenrobcarr They are like wasps, only bigger!

The buzzing you heard were the butterfly's bodyguards. Good thing you got out of there. :)
