I don't share my tomatoes! by cjwhite

I don't share my tomatoes!

Well, I don't share with Tomato Hornworm Moth caterpillars!!! I found this one chomping on my tomato plant this morning. They are so hard to see. I thought I had taken care of the problem and then I found another one this afternoon! They ate a lot of leaves and chewed on four tomatoes.

My goodness, he looks almost exactly like part of the stem! So destructive. . .I'm almost surprised you even let him stay long enough for the photo!!

You should keep it and take photos of the pupa like a purse with handle and the hawk moth! The first time I grew tomatoes and saw one I jumped! But then I captured it and took it to school! Haha

Great picture - would have been a super example of camoflauge when I was teaching science - your shot is amazing for its detail.

Obviously a pest but quite attractive too. Amazing macro.

I gave it a tomato and leaves from my plant...it only ate a few days tops and then pupated. But when I have raised these from eggs bought on Internet I order this "cookie dough " mush food for them....did you see my pics I posted of them in albums two and three a while back? They were from 2008 but was showing someone....

@yonnie Thank you! I saw the missing leaves first, so I started looking for it. This one was easier to find than the second one. The second one was underneath some leaves.

Well they need to br trained to go elsewhere.

At least he is only eating the leaves and not the tomatoes.

Yikes! They're SO destructive!

@rach_who It took bites out of four of the smaller tomatoes. It won't be doing it again!

@girlie I did!!!

Wow !! Thank goodness we don't have those here. They are so well comoflauged. I know it is a pest but it is very photogenic.

Nasty buggers that's for sure. The only good tomato worm is a dead tomato worm. I had some on my plants last year. This year, Knock on wood, I haven't seen any yet.
