Far, far away by cjwhite

Far, far away

Far, far away on a dead tree, my elusive Red-Tailed Hawk perches. I can see it and I can hear it. The only way I could get closer would be to scale an electric fence and cross a large pasture. The large pasture is the home to a huge, scary black Angus bull.

Sigh!!! Someday, the hawk will come closer. :0)

Thank you for your kind responses to yesterday's butterfly pic!!! :0)
Imagine the view he would have from up there.

Great capture! I would be very leery of crossing that pasture with the big Angus bull too.

Had one that would land on my fence and wait to see which of my little dogs came out. Ended up chasing it away with a broom for several days before it quit "hunting" in my backyard! Love this one at a distance better :)

Great catch!

good shot, raptors are very hard to capture

Great, Carolyn. . .as much as you want a closer shot, it gets really scary when you find one in your yard!
June 14th, 2012
Yeah, I think you should settle for this for now. Much safer.

I'm sure one day you will catch a closer shot! You always have the most amazing wildlife (and insect) shots! :)

Beautiful!!

Aaww, so close and yet so far away. One of these days it will come closer. Nice capture anyways!
June 14th, 2012
Gosh, don't you just hate it when they tease you like that! I wouldn't tempt the bull either. Nice catch.

Wonderful composition! & Beautiful capture!

Very cool bird, love that he is perched right on the edge

it's a nice composition of your Elusive One; I'm confident that you will eventually get the shot you want

No wonder you took this shot from far away, Carolyn. It came out pretty nice.
June 14th, 2012
Nicely done - even at a distance!
June 14th, 2012
Good composition, and a good shot!

Reminds me of the hawk I posted the other day. At first I didn't even know it was there on that tall dead tree until I zoomed in. No need to always get a close-up. I like the comp the way it is. Good job.

I can imagine you taking on that bull! Anything for a hawk photo!
Lovely image, he's a beauty

what a great opportunity! very lucky! and great shot of it!
June 14th, 2012
Nicely captured.

Oh, come on - live a little. You can run, right? What's a little bull for a priceless hawk photo? Haha. :)
June 14th, 2012
Think that running away from the bull would be nearly as bad as getting up from the ground shots, but maybe the adrenaline would kick in!! A lovely shot from that distance!

Great POV and beautiful captured
June 14th, 2012
What's an electric fence between you and the shot of your dreams????? ha ha, lovely shot
June 14th, 2012
@claireuk Thank you! The fence doesn't scare me as badly as the bull! He's aggressive! I got a little too close to the fence and he started pawing the ground. I can take a hint. I left rather quickly! :0)
June 14th, 2012
@cjwhite Oh my! don't blame you at all! :0)
June 14th, 2012
Very great capture
June 14th, 2012
Nicely done! As a child I would visit my grandfather who lived next to a pasture full of black angus. The path to the marsh went through that pasture and if the bull was present, I wouldn't set foot in it!

LOL you're letting that fence and a bull get in your way? Just teasing! Whenever I see any raptors, I'm driving. And I don't have appropriate lens if I weren't driving anyway. Well done.
