Carolina Mantid

I thought I was going to go all year without getting a mantid pic. I spied this female Carolina Mantid hiding in the honeysuckle. She was big, but lucky for me moving slowly. :0)

When I was looking her up, I found pics of mantid egg cases. I've seen them all my life, but I didn't know what they were. I'll try to get a pic of one. I think I know where some old ones are.

Great capture! I got a shot of one at my father in law's place...she had a big abdomen like that and I'm pretty sure was looking for a place to put her eggs....maybe this one too.
