I've been chasing this Yellow-bellied Sapsucker for two weeks. He's easy to find, because he's really loud and he loves drilling holes in my maple trees. The problem has been how quickly he shimmies to the top of the trees, when I try to get his pic. He let me get a little closer today. :0)
The sapsuckers drill rows of holes in the trees and drink the sap with thier long tongues. The Yellow-rumped Warblers and the Chickadees drink from the holes, too.
Thank you so much for stopping by my project!!! :0)
Wonderful shot Carolyn. I have one too! They make a funny sound too, so I usually hear him before I see him. I finally got a decent shot this past weekend. Your detail is wonderful (as usual!).
Great catch, Carolyn! We've seen one a few times this winter at one of the parks I frequent, but so far. . .they are gone before I can unlock the zoom on my lens! lovely shot. . .
A beauty that I'm really glad you caught since I'd only seen one in a book and as quick as they are, doubt I could focus on time. The detail and colors are great!
Love this picture. I know what you mean about how loud they are! And how hard they are to get a picture of! I was able to get one not-too-horrible picture last year, but no matter how much I tried I couldn't get another.
