Once a huge open space between East and West Berlin, the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin is now full of shops and high rise buildings, and the state of the art Sony Center. To the left of the picture are some fragments of the wall which remain in situ.

This is one of the most changed areas, I remember looking over the wall here across the death strip to the wall on the other side of this no mans land - their wall was pristine white so that shadows & escaping figures stood out! Have you visited "Museum am Checkpoint Charlie" ? very interesting, about the many escapes!
@carole_sandford Yes I have! Went there a couple of times, including with students from my school. I think the whole idea of East and West separation is difficult to comprehend for those who have not witnessed it. I was a regular visit to Berlin in 1989, and so I witnessed life there in GDR times as well as during the fall of the wall. Yes, Potsdamer Platz is unrecognisable now.
