Abandoned house (front view), Dorchester County, South Carolina

Along one of my favorite country roads I found this abandoned house. Everytime I see scenes like this in the country, I have to wonder what caused the house to be abandoned, who lived there, and what must it have been like for the family or families that called this place home. I wonder if any of them come by now and contemplate whether it can be fixed up and restored. I find this sad, but also in a sense, inevitable, like life itself. Change is constant, and before too many more years have passed, this place more than likely will be no more, unless...
It really does make you wonder what happened. A great picture John

A wonderful capture , such abandonment , where nature is steadily taking over !! So many questions , mainly -why !

Interesting that the house still has a television ariel and is really quite stylish, it really has a sad demeanour :)

It still looks habitable - some paintwork would have made it a lovely dwelling.

Great find, John! I know this happens in the south where things just GROW!! Houses get lost! I used to collect pictures like this whenever I could find them and get my husband to stop and turn around - haha!

What a sad view, surely it could be renovated. Well captured.

I don't know why I find these abandoned structures so appealing, but this is a big FAV. What stories they could tell.

A very poignant capture...nature wins in the end! Still a TV antenna on the house. Looks like it had been a charming home at one time!

That is very interesting to wonder those things...nice shot. It does show what would happen if we stopped taking care of homes and yards too.

I saw this on PP! I see houses like this a lot here in NC and often wonder the same thing.

@stownsend Yes, I don't know how many times I have wanted to turn around the photograph an abandoned house. Mostly, I go on, but I wish I'd turn around and take the picture more often. :-)

Such a wonderful photo and great find, John. It does make one wonder why it is like this and who lived there. Sad to see homes like this. Wonder what the inside or back looks like. Were you tempted to look? FAV
