The first of the early bell heather is starting to flower bringing colour to the vast moorland. It is a brighter and deeper shade of magenta/purple pink and flowers from June to August with just a little merging into the true heath erica that starts flowering mid August onwards. It’s a welcome sight and is a lovely colour, to be honest I prefer it. Years ago it used to be just in patches here and there but over the past decade it’s increased so that it flowers in most place and in some takes over completely.
