We went up to Chimney Bank over the moors near Rosedale today. The weather was lovely but such a cold wind 14c so I didn't linger too long!
These 8 arches are what is left of two kilns(4arches each kiln) where ironstone was mined. The ore was heated up in the kilns to get rid of unwanted contaminates which in turn lightened the weight of the ore making it cheaper to ship by train to the smelters.

Thank you for all your comments and favs all are appreciated.
There you go again, making me feel homesick! Lovely Rosedale. Well we're packing up our life in France once more and will be back in wonderful North Yorkshire next week.
@julieco
So sorry I'm making you homesick, are you home for the winter? Where do you come from in the north east? It must be lovely to spend the summer months in France.
@julieco
That would be nice, although I am a bit restricted at the moment, awaiting an op on my ankle. Do you ever come over my way, I am just down the road from Saltburn, Redcar and Marske?
