Drystone by craftymeg

Drystone

A Dales drystone wall in a tumbledown state, a lot of the walls looked like this. They are so different from the walls around this area even though they all built with stone. Each wall seems to have its own signature and you can tell the walls built by the same person or repaired in the same style. The gap in the wall shows the distant moor with peat bog.

Thank you for all your comments and favs all are very welcome and appreciated.
I wonder who might have the necessary skills to fix this up? Lovely image, framing the distant moorland.

I had A Great Uncle who was a dry stone Waller. My mum tells me he liked the drink, so we always used to look out for the “wavy” ones, as we thought he must have built those ones

A great opportunity for a photo here - maybe its just one stone at fault - the weakest link!

Nice pile of stones. They looked to have been cleared a bit so someone could go over the top of the wall.

The LeFevres are masons from many generations back. I had to chuckle when I saw this because I could hear my father-in-law reciting how it was not done right and this should never have happened! But then, these weren't built yesterday so I'm thinking they have the right to show a little wear and tear. I like the peek on to the moor in the distance. Very pretty!

Looking at a very similar sight through the drizzle out of my window in Cumbria today. Fascinating when they are broken down, almost a melted look.
