As you go down to Hob Hole in Baysdale valley the edges of the road are cloaked in early heather such a colourful sight. This photo shows the patches on the moorland where the farmers and landowners have managed the heather by burning, this grows back after a year or two and supplies the grouse with shelter and food. Beyond that is moorland farmland and fields used for grazing in Westerdale.
