Ordered the headstone today. If you had four words to choose, what would they be? The sorry cemetery took a month to sod her grave. :-(
"Will The Circle Be Unbroken"
I was standing by the window
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw the hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky
I said to the undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord I hate to see her go
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky
Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky
I went back home, the home was lonesome
Since my mother, she was gone
All my brothers and sisters crying
What a home so sad and alone
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sky
We sang songs of childhood
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that mother maybelle taught us
Hear the angels sing along
Will the circle be unbroken
By and by Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky Lord, in the sk
Memories to keep in your heart Danette.
I like your poem, boight tears to my eye's as my two son's & and father all rest together.
It's the hardest part of life arranging funerals then headstones.
Big virtual hugs.xx🌻🌻
A lovely tribute, I understand your loss, its over 20 years since I lost the Mum of my two children and then my Mum & Dad. I still think of them often as I am sure you will forever. It does make you stronger yet somehow with a softer more forgiving and understanding heart, at least I think it did me. And they are in a better place now and we will always have memories. Blessings to you and your family.
I am sorry, Danette. Such a loving tribute and sorry the cemetery took so long to complete their task.
I remember when I lost my dad (March) , mom (Christmas Day) and mother in law (December) all in 2005. Tears in remembrance.
@gardenfolk Thanks so much for the kind words. 2005 must have been a rough year. I can't imagine losing all those people so close together. My mom's parents died within 10 days of each other (right around Christmas) but they weren't that close.
