Temple of Time by danette

Temple of Time

An artist is building this temple with help from volunteers. It will open on February 14, one year from the massacre at Stoneman Douglas High School. It is somehow intended to be healing for those who are grieving. It will be up for 3 months, then burned to the ground. The woodwork is beautiful. Cell phone shot.
It looks like a Chinese, Japnese or Hindu pagoda. It will be interesting to see when finished! Very ornate.

I hope you will be able to get a finished photo. From what I can tell, the work is beautiful.

is there a special significance in the design?

It is a beautiful looking structure such a great thing to do to help the healing. It's kind of sad it will be burned down.

@mittens The artist, David Best and his crew call it “the burn,” a way of casting off the demons of pain, grief and sorrow.

@snowy Apparently this artist has done a number of these temples for the healing of pain. This is an excerpt from a newspaper story:
"Some students at Stoneman Douglas have already met with the artist and are creating symbols that will be incorporated into the temple.
“They’re actually creating designs that will be scanned and laser cut into 16-by-16 inch blocks of raw wood that will be used to create the temple,” said Jacquelene Lieberman, an art teacher at the Parkland high school. “Some students are creating symbols that might relate to one of the victims. I don’t think they know if it’s going to help them or not. But they’re open to it.”

@louannwarren It's close to my house, so I will definitely revisit when it is finished. Will try to go to the burning ceremony, too.

@skipt07 agreed. I even cut off the ends which are very Asian in design. It was fenced, so I was limited.

And this is to be opened on February 14 of this year? It looks like there is still a lot of work to do. Very ornate.
