Miles and miles of sugarcane

The interior of Florida, near Lake Okeechobee, is full of sugar cane fields. Known as "Big Sugar", these corporations have a lot of political clout.
Yeah, the "sugar barons" of the south were an occasional example in my economics classes. It was not meant to be a favorable example... Nice photo; really like the simple blues & greens!

@louannwarren yes, Big Sugar is not well loved by many. I realize it is complicated. I wish the Everglades had been better understood 100 years ago. Honestly, I have only recently grown an appreciation of it. However, our state absolutely needs to have a healthy Everglades system.

Wow! That's such a thick crop of sugar cane! I like the contrast with the dirt road.
