End of an era

This is the tallest building in my town. I moved here before the building was built and it has been a landmark. It sits at the main intersection of our town. Starting Monday, they will begin the demolition process. It has outlived its usefulness. This building always put a smile on my face. When I was last inside, though, it was so dreary. There was no way to modernize it and it rumors of having "sick building syndrome". They are planning retail and apartments to replace it. I sure hope it works.
Very nice POV! It would seem they don't build them to last anymore. Perhaps, they will give this some thought for the future. I'd rather renovate a 150 year old home than buy a new one built like a box everyone else owns.

That is sad it is coming down. Great shot of the beautiful looking building.

What a pity that your landmark will be taken down. Hope they don't replace it with some skscraper. At least you have a lovely photo to remember it.

Doesn't that make you feel old. When things come and go in my lifetime it does make me feel old.

Well it doesn’t have any real appeal in it’s appearance. I look forward to your photos of the new development!

Nice capture. Will it be an explosive removal.

Wow! I drove through my work city this week and noticed many abandoned buildings, one as large at this. Amazing how buildings can "outlive their usefulness"!

What was it used for when it was used?

@timerskine it was an office building. The bottom floor typically had a bank.

@rickster549 no. We were hoping for an implosion, but they will be using a wrecking ball instead.

@ludwigsdiana it looks like the plans call for 4-7 stories.

When this building was built?
