Progress? by danette

Progress?

Our town is undergoing a fundamental change. Months ago, a building I loved, and which was built while I was in high school, was demolished. It is being replaced by a modern live/work space. I have conflicting thoughts about it. My whole life, people have flocked to Florida. I am almost ready to put up a "we are full, thank you" sign.
If I lived there, i would also want to put up a sign. I'm just in TX and feel like that sometimes with all the traffic. Looks like you'll have a nice building when completed....even if they did tear down an old one.

I would be conflicted too. Those cranes always make for interesting shots though and those clouds are just amazing.

Our cities are bursting at the seams too. So many new apartments being built. I don’t think people can expect to live in houses in the future, I think they will be apartment dwellers.

A sign of the times, forever construction!

The first elementary school I attended was demolished *years* ago. It was the school from which I was sent home early on November 22, 1963…

I live near the university where I graduated. Almost the entire downtown has been demolished to build high-rise "game day" apartments! All but one of the classroom building which I attended are gone! Progress!!

@thewatersphotos oh my. I know that the home of UF has also changed so much recently. I’m glad the town was mostly the same from when I went to when my son was there.

@rhoing hmmm…must be a significant date! Were you disobedient? The first home we built was recently demolished. Made me sad.

@louannwarren I worry that people will want to rent and that will affect wealth and control.

@lynne5477 when Floridians leave, they go to Texas!

It’s called progress, sometimes a good thing but not always.

Nice capture. No what you mean. They are doing so much building up here in Jacksonville, it's unbelievable. Not sure where everyone is going to work, but they seem to keep flooding in.

Lovely shot of the progress and building site. All around us there are new developments popping up with thousands of houses. I always wonder where these people lived before?

@danette November 22, 1963 was the day John F Kennedy was assassinated. I wasn't sent home from school early like Thom Mitchell, but I was in school and still remember the day.

It's sad they demolished a building you loved.

@lynnz oh, man. I remember most important dates, but this one escaped me. I wasn't in school, but I do remember the day. Later, during much of those rough years, we lived outside DC.

As far as the building is concerned, it couldn't be modernized, and it had issues. It'll just make our "little" town that much more not the town I used to know.
