Starting the August book club challenge today. The book in question is Freeman Patterson’s Photography and the Art of Seeing. For the first part of this challenge there are two sections: Barriers to Seeing and Learning to Observe.
Barriers to Seeing:
“The purpose of this book is to help you improve your visual thinking – to observe more accurately, to develop your imagination, and to express a theme or subject more effectively with photographs.
Learning to Observe:
The second section is divided into two main ideas: thinking sideways and relaxed attentiveness. Try one or both of these approaches and share how it impacted your thoughts or photography.
I'd already decided on using the umbrella but it was just a matter of how and what method to use. As the book says not to think about the photograph taking itself and to just take two or three shots - this is how i approached it. The wooden handle and colours were the first things that struck me, so that's what i went with here. The light is just from a sunny window with no other help other than a slight crop to take out the background carpet, and my signature added.
A good start Darren ---a new project to get your teeth into (so to speak ¬) Very nicely portraid the colour wheel with the sun shining on the brightest colour -yellow . A nice approach Darren !
@pamknowler Pam you'll find all the info in the discussion pages under August book club . Ideally, you'll need a copy of the book but it's not essential :)
Love this image! Excellent composition and color. 365 has really helped develop some of these ideas, but would like to read this book also. Great shot!
@happysnap thanks kindly Linda. It's pretty scary actually as I think I'll be posting shots I wouldn't normally like to take. Be interesting to get some reaction to them!!
Darren this is terrific! It is a gorgeous image in its own right. And then you say to yourself "well..what IS that?" next. After I realized what it was I thought "oh wow! That strategy worked! Fav
