A lovely friend offered to take my daughter home from her soccer game today (as I was still feeling awful and I have so much to do). As I drove home, I saw some crows and thought I'd give capturing them a try since I had not thought out a shot for the day, and as some of you know, I love birds. The crow lifted off and flew in front of a restaurant's roof that has a unique pattern in it. I love crows, but they are really hard to get for "detail" -- the red back drop really adds something in my mind!
Fav -- I love the black against the red and the way his back is lit. Crows are definitely amazing -- intelligent, mischievous, and wild -- what could be better.
@amandal@sailingmusic@catwoman2 Thanks so much! And for the fav Mary. I LOVE crows. I keep trying to capture them, but they have to have light on them to get detail and today, it was clouds and rain. Thank goodness for the red roof!
Daryl, I've looked through your shots - you are a gifted photographer with a great eye for composition. Your macro shots are amazing. My challenge for you is to take a photo in the style of your favorite famous photographer -- e.g. Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Annie Leibovitz, Margaret Bourke-White. Here is a link to a site with some ideas: http://www.shootingfilm.net/2013/08/10-famous-photographers-and-what-you.html. I love your challenge for me; I'll get started thinking about it.
beautiful! such a great capture...when the feathers do that That's great @darylo Those wings are shedding the vortex of the air which makes it more efficient. Modern airplanes now have winglet tips at the end of the wings pointing up at the ends of the wings to do the same thing. You have to respect nature!!
LOL I know you are going to laugh at this one, but nice abstract pic! Truly I thought it was a piece or origami until I read the description. LOVE this! Fav!
Oh gosh, thanks for the feedback and favs and for making this shot go to the PP--I am under some awful deadlines and I'm still working on getting better healthwise. This was a fun chance shot, and I appreciate your visits more than you can know. I'm so sorry I cannot reciprocate at this time--REALLY annoyed with the health and schedule problems at the moment, but they are what they are. :/
@nkawoods Oh, you must have read my mind. I've been dying to do something in the vein of Eudora Welty, one of my favorite writers who also took camera in hand to photograph Mississippi during the depression and when she worked with the WPA. I'm revisiting the one book I bought of her photographs. My graduate thesis is on Welty, so I'm hoping to channel her ability to capture some scenes that remind me of her. It may not happen, unfortunately, as my schedule is crazy, but I will plan a day to see what I can come up with!
