I'm posting this to show Taffy my macro clip on my 35mm full frame lens (but a 50 mm on my crop sensor). I had a wide aperture so the possibility of getting everything in was going to be nil and I was not directly on top of the spider (Venusta Orchard spider for those interested) to get best clarity. BUT, there is clarity on the direct spot I focused (more head and abdomen), and this was taken in low light. With good light, the macro clip will do much better because you could tighten the aperture to get more in or set shutter speed higher. With a floral subject, the tighter aperture would be the better choice as it is unlikely to move more than a spider. :) Hope this helps. I did crop and use clarity, but you can see the "butt" is out of focus while the face and first sections of legs are in focus.
@taffy, hope this helps a bit. Light was overcast. But I used the stella doro lilies in the backdrop to provide color. I opened up the aperture wide and used a low ISO and a "decent" shutterspeed for handheld. NOT very good, but hopefully this helps with what we talked about. Let me know if this helps and if you have any more questions!
@jyokota@darylo Daryl, I'm tagging Junko as we both bought them (I ordered them and am bringing hers with me to Japan). I've taken some flower shots with them and they are better than the first round I did indoors. Thanks for your help over the phone yesterday. Mine still are not as clear as what you've done, so yours continue to inspire.
Well, I must say that I love your capture of the spider but it's more in focus than I'd prefer for any spider to be :)
Thanks for the tag, @Taffy -- I can't wait for you to get here with our new toys. I only only only wish that @darylo was joining us in person, rather than in spirit. I just checked into our Tokyo hotel and we'll have super fast internet here so we can upload and comment easily at least from here.
@taffy@jyokota Awww, I really am just beside myself that I am not going on this trip with all of you. Talking to you on the phone Taffy was like I'd known you forever, and I know that this trip is going to be a bonding thing for everyone going from 365! My daughter just left Tokyo yesterday and we have been using an app called Viber (all she needs is Wifi and she can call or text and send attachments (photos) FREE!). It has been so nice to just hear from her a little bit. Just in case you all need a new app in your phone or iPads or other devices! Also, you could call me from Japan to say hi! Taffy, you have my number, so on Viber it is the same. :)
Have a wonderful time. Kira has fallen head over heals in love with Japan--she's been to the sky tree, to the shopping district, some temples. She's speaking in Japanese, getting her own tickets on the trains (in Japanese!), and she's sampled all kinds of food like crepes and Korean bbq. Her teacher emails me every night (Kira is the only student going without a parent) and she said Kira asked her why she ever left Japan to come to the states? And that's exactly how I felt when I was 10 years old, the last time I was in Japan.
