My daughter arrives today! She's been in Japan for 20 days this summer (on two separate trips--10 days each), so I'm pretty happy to have her back.
My goal today was to get some kind of interesting bug for the macro assignment on ONS8--and I got two. This one is a spittle bug, and they are having a field day in an area of my back yard that yearly turns into a victory weed garden. Last year, my husband cleared it completely for me as I had big hopes to build a vegetable garden out of some pavers all stacked in the back yard (for over 10 years now). We are hopeless. It's just a huge, tall plot of weeds again.
This bug was inside its spit originally, but I uncovered it, held the stem myself, held my breath and moved toward and away from my subject hoping to get the spit and bug in focus, with some bokeh to boot. I'm using my macro converter clip for the shot as I don't have a macro lens. My bokeh is what a critic might call a "blow out" but I like the blowout bokeh. These guys are sort of pre-historic looking.
Picked up daughter later (that's why I didn't post on time). She lost camera. So we will rely on the stories. We got a bunch of them at our very late dinner, and her gift giving when we finally got home. I'll get more. After she turns her attention to the electric guitar kit she bought before she left. After she texts and gets together with her friends. After, after, after. It's tough being last. But it's fine. She's back.
Welcome safely back to daughter! I love spittle bugs! I saw kabunches when I was back home in June. I don't have a "proper" macro lens either but feel I get along fine...just as you do! :)
I'll take being last as long as I get my turn. That's just beginning to happen with my ASD son. Sorry she lost her camera. Now, only she has the memories of a lifetime. Kudos for being a brave-enough mom to provide the opportunity to have them.
The time seemed to fly -- it feels like yesterday you were putting her on the plane. Lovely to have her back and be able to hear her stories first hand. And this macro -- WOW!!! GREAT capture with so much in focus, and so close. Did you have to do much cropping?

Glad your daughter is coming home.
Terrific detail in this one. Awesome macro!
Great close up.
