For 3 years now, my father has given me a whole beef tenderloin as my Christmas gift. He knows me so well. Oddly, the very first photo I took for 365 was my process of trimming a whole tenderloin for different purposes (whole steaks, a "butt" for a roast, and various leftover pieces for tender morsels in a dish that calls for some special meat http://365project.org/darylo/365/2013-01-01 ). So tonight, I did my trimming again, froze the butt, froze the "extras," and grilled the steaks I cut from the middle section.
Over the holidays, my mother gave me some new platters and plates from her collection (the plates will actually go to my brother in CT as I know he has my father's collection of the same plates), and I'm in love with the platter because it makes a wonderful presentation piece on the table. You can see one of the plates in the distance (not same pattern). The platter is actually for fish and comes with four fish plates that are wonderful displays a table! Yes, I love anything that has to do with food and presentation.
The steaks tonight were cooked on the grill. I made a mixture of sage, oregano, and rosemary with garlic, salt, and pepper. Rubbed the meat with the mixture and then grilled to just above rare. I patted the steaks with a bit of butter afterwards. I roasted the potatoes in the oven and made kale chips too.
What a delicious meal with my husband and daughter (I have a feeling that my other daughter will regret a sleepover she chose...).
Oh, and I'm now on a search for the next camera. It's official. I am thinking of going full frame with a Mark 5D III or a crop sensor with a 7D Mark II. Feel free to weigh in...
HOT DOG for a poorly written narrative, but long as heck anyway.
@markp haha! Loo would be pants! Let me say I have sooooooo enjoyed our exchanges over these two years. You have taught me so much and have provided many a chuckle. :)
hot dog! in the first place this was a very light weight narrative for you and really shouldn't have earned hot dog points (but I will take them anyway!) and nothing poorly written about it unless you count the length (or lack of)!
I knew this was your shot the moment I saw it . you do food so well! cooking and shooting! Beautiful platter and the food presentation and image composition are fabulous!
PS I love my 5D iii. My last camera was a 40D and it was a big difference for me changing to a full frame sensor. For me, the big advantage of the 5D iii is that I can use it in all weathers, and do.
@dorsetsteve thanks Stephen! My interst in the 7D Mark II is the rapid shutter rate as I take lots of sports and bird/wildlife photos. Full frame has so many advantages though!
As for your new camera, do you mean the 7d ii? (Canon had the worst terminology!)
