A bit of an update. My back is still quite the struggle, and one thing particularly painful is bending to pick up things, so I went on Amazon and did a search for a picker upper. It works. So hopefully I'll bend less!
Does it pick up dust from the floor? You mean I would actually have to vacuum! I think the bending down bit is the worst! Try to avoid it at all times!
@maggiemae it does pick up small items rather well. Bending down has been very hard on me and there are so many things down on ground or in lower cupboards. Thos has become quite the nightmare unfortunately. :( But it works!
Take care of yourself! I've had chronic back pain all my adult life, and when the bad times hit, it's hard to even get up. That grabber does look useful, though.
Yes, I got my dad one of these for the period of time after his hip operation. They are very handy ... The real reason I got one is that I was told that dad wouldn't be able to put on his own pants. Now, I mean 'pants' in the British English sense of the word. And I thought ... 'oh no', 'I will do a lot, but I'm not helping my dad put on his pants' ... so the grabber was purchased! I don't think he actually needed it for his pants (I didn't ask ...) but it's a great tool. I do hope your back gets better soon Daryl. xx
We have one of these as both my sister and I have had back problems. It really does come in handy Daryl - I am sure you will find it helps. So sorry to hear you are still really struggling!
@jgpittenger it's good and bad. While I am able to do more, there's just a wall I hit each day, and all I want to do is lie down. I start the morning off pickingbstuff up, putting away dishes, and using lower drawers. I'm hoping this stick can relieve those early bendover moments, so I can do more over a day's time. I have a referral to physical therapy next, so we'll see!
@darylo WE have one at our front door to pick up the post - before Finlay can eat it!! Another one upstairs too - my sister uses it even though her back seems ok at the moment. I think it just makes you careful!! Hoping your recovery gets a move on!! Big hug xx
@pamknowler It's a GREAT device. Today, I cleaned my shower using the grabber to hold my scrubber for the bottom half of the shower tiles. May not be cleaned the best, but it has not been done in a long time (also shows how much my family is NOT going to pick up that slack). I'm going to definitely get another one so I can have one upstairs and one downstairs. It makes me realize how many times I bend down for soooooo many things. Prepping for vacuuming is a breeze now. Thank goodness I saw someone on the side of the road one day picking up trash with one--I would not have thought of it!
There is a version over here, with little digger buckets at the bottom, normally used by people with canine friends. Commonly known as a " pooper scooper "
