Today, rather than wait until I cooked dinner (planning on ribs on the grill), I decided to get my food shot in around lunch time--actually, I wanted to make sure I created an original dish for my lunch to enjoy and photograph outside.
One Night Stand this time was hard as I was hosting a niece and trying to recover from a very active spring break, but I was not going to let my favorite subject go without trying my best!
This dish is a Daryl original. Haven't given it a name yet, but it tastes out of this world! Here is the recipe for you foodies like me--easy peasy--nothing takes cooking and it's all about amounts and arranging!
Four slices very thin sliced prosciutto (if you don't do meat, think of some sautéed Kale maybe).
One tomato sliced (I used a "brown tomato" called a Kumato).
One lemon sliced super thin (four slices per plate). If you happen to have preserved lemons on hand (Italian and French friends know what I mean), then use those.
Goat cheese. Soft, plain goat cheese. Make four patties with your hands and a ball "topper"
Olive oil and lemon juice and pepper.
Arrange the prosciutto slices on the plate, layer the tomato, a goat cheese patty, a slice of lemon. Repeat. I added some kalamata olives at the end, but you don't need to (capers would be nice too). Then drizzle olive oil and lemon juice on top. Top with fresh pepper!
I used fresh sliced baguette as a side so I could make a little sandwich, but I used a knife and fork for the rest. It was the most delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe I have done in a long time. And finally, a food shot for ONS that I like! Last time it was a meat ball at Buca di Beppo!
@orangecrush , once again, thanks for making life fun and risky. I only "got lucky" a couple of times, but when you live too fast, that's just the way it works out. Had to end strong--who doesn't love food, right? :)
Looks and sounds good, Daryl, well done. We have our own preserved lemons, nearly ready to go. I'd have to go feta or mozzarella though, I'm the only one here that loves goats cheese. We have a local variety that is coated in ash and I think that puts them off!
Please vacuum pack this straightaway and send to Vignouse, Brittany, France - thank you in anticipation... and in the meantime I shall keep my gastric juices active by looking at your great photo at regular intervals!
@grammyn Sadly, I used to be a caterer and there's very little money in it. I am happiest in a market or in a kitchen (or at the grill). When I go on vacation, I just love cooking! So, like with photography, I'll be happy and poor. :)
@vignouse ahhh, Bretagne! J'ai fais des etudes a Paris il y a 25 ans! (And I've forgotten everything, but ahhhh, Bretagne!). My great hope is that I will travel to France again with my youngest daughter who is studying French now. I studied a year there in the 80's and I loved it so much (and the program I went with had several trips including Normandie and Bretagne--wonderful places!). When I come, I'll bring you a dish! ;)
AWesome shot and your catering background comes through. I'll save and fav so I can find it again and make it this summer. It will be a great lunch on the patio meal!
@taffy And that's exactly what I did--eat it on the patio--we had an honest-to-goodness spring day today. Thanks for the fav. I love sharing recipes and showing how good it can look. Super easy too--icing on the cake!
@grammyn When you visit me I'll cook for you. You can cook for me anytime! I've seen those dishes you've made girl. I believe @davette showed us a few of them. :)
This looks so yummy! I had a hard time keeping up this time! I didn't realize I was overlapping Easter when I first posted the challenge! Looks like a good excuse for another!
@darylo When you come to Brittany Daryl, I'll cook you a dish. You make this as the starter and I'll do a tagine with my own preserved lemons, seeing as you like them; and, just because I prefer it, I would serve it with polenta rather than couscous.
It looks wonderful, except I'm not so sure about the lemon slices, although they add great color to the photo. Linda is an amazing cook, and it is a good think because I am not. I'm famous for setting an apple pie on fire.
@rvwalker My husband is famous for the raw hamburger he cooked on the grill. I just finished cleaning the grill today and will keep my post there too. Hehe. But he is the best baker on the planet and I would burn a pie too!
POV, focus, variety in the subject, (so more visual interest) and light are some of the things that make this one more appealing to me. I would say up the contrast just a tad and call it good.
