Sunrise through the trees by dave_rv

Sunrise through the trees

I stopped off at the motorway services to capture the cafe against the dawn sky (see

I was just getting back in the car when the sun rose over motorway.
So beautiful.

Beautiful sunrise!

Awesome exposure. It'd be so easy to blow this one out, and with just about 90 seconds of time to get the sun in contact with the horizon, you can't get many corrections in.

Beautiful color and silhouettes! I love how you captured the actual sun in this too.

Hey! Thanks for all those great comments. Glad you like the photo. I shoot RAW mostly, so all images have a certain amount of processing. The sky is slightly lighter in the original, but that's about all.

Jessica: As soon as I saw this photo it reminded me of some of your images!

Beautiful sunrise, love the silhouetted trees and orange tones!

@dave_rv What does shooting RAW mean? I have so much to learn.

@tanja_1211 Tanja - glad you like it.

@jessca646 Thanks, but I've a long way to go to catch up on the consistency of your sunrise/set shots!

@skstein Hi Sandy. A RAW file is often described as a digital negative. It is basically the image captured by the camera sensor with no further processing. When a camera produces a jpeg it takes information from the sensor then performs further processing to apply white balance, noise reduction and any other effects you may have selected. Very often selecting "portrait" or "landscape" mode will cause the camera to process the image slightly differently. Because of this lack processing in the camera, a RAW file will generally require some editing on a computer to get the best out of the image. Unlike jpeg files, which are completely standardized, the format of a RAW file differs between camera manufacturer and sometimes even between cameras from the same manufacturer! I think it is mostly DSLR cameras which give the option of RAW files - I do not think these will be available on the Canon PowerShot SX260 HS you seem to be using.
