Tall Ships in Boston by deborahsimmerman

Tall Ships in Boston

I spent the whole afternoon in the Seaport District walking the Harborwalk up and down the piers to see the Tall Ships docked. It was really thrilling--they came from many parts of the world as well as many East coast ports in the U.S.

This is BAE Guayas from Ecuador. When it sailed in on Saturday, the sailors were standing on the yards on all the levels--a spectacular sight. I saw it on TV as I didn't go down there Saturday morning. We were told it was an old custom that showed that a ship entering a port was peaceful; if the men were on the yards, they could not be firing cannons.

The only thing I missed was seeing the ships with their sails up. Tomorrow morning they will be leaving Boston, but I have another commitment and can't go back to the waterfront. Most of the ships are heading for Nova Scotia next, to be part of Canada's 150th birthday celebration. Happy birthday Canada!
